Recommends vol1, maandelijks de beste tracks gratis binnen handbereik!

Recommends, dat is de naam van een nieuwe serie gratis downloads verzorgd door de wereldberoemde club The End in Londen. Hierbij wordt elke maand een compilatie gemaakt met de beste tracks van de beste artiesten, talenten en labels die er op dit moment te vinden zijn.

Deze maand kun je op de compilatie terugvinden onderandere tracks van Carl Craig, Simian Mobile Disco en Break3000. Het betreft hier volledige tracks, te downloaden in een zipfile, daarbij is het één en ander ook nog eens voorzien van handige cd-sleeves.

Officieel moet je lid worden van The End, maar om je die moeite te besparen heb ik het geheel voor jullie ook online gezet. Lid worden van The End is overigens wel een tip en mijns inziens zeker de moeite van de registratie waard.

9 – Let’s Go Outside: I Can’t Sleep (Soma)
Soma are one of the most consistently great labels in the UK, and this slow, weird (good weird!) filthy techno track from recent signing Stephen Schieberl is no exception.

11 – Jose James: Black Eyed Susan (Brownswood)
Brooklyn based jazz singer Jose James was so determined to get Gilles Peterson to listen to his stuff, he flew all the way to London to hand him his demos in person. It paid off, as Gilles snapped him up for his excellent Brownswood label straight away.

Co-produced by Erol Alkan, and remixed by Partyshank, this chaotic, confrontational slice of pop actually does sound a bit like a bear has walked into your living room. Brilliant.

13 – Carl Craig: Brain Freeze (!K7)
Carl Craig is one of dance music’s most well respected DJs and producers, and in Brainfreeze he’s created a perfect 5am-on-the-dancefloor track to finish Recommends Vol. 1 with a bang.
